Water repellent ≠ waterproof
Water repellent: Hydrophobic compounds are deposited on the fiber surface, leaving pores on the fabric surface through which air and water vapor can pass.
Water proofing: Fill the pores on the surface of the fabric with an impermeable compound, which is not only waterproof but also airtight.
