As the largest and most representative province in the Yangtze River Basin, cotton production has long been removed from the main crop sequence that has been in place for decades, and will no longer be counted among agricultural products. The province’s cotton has dropped from an area of 6 to 7 million acres and an output of tens of millions of dans in its glory days to an area of only a few hundred thousand acres and an output of tens of thousands of dans.

In terms of production, first of all, the area is declining year by year. Most of the planting is scattered and small cotton fields, with different varieties and qualities, and there is no intensive type. , the scientific and technological content in large-scale production. Historically, Dafeng, Sheyang, Yandu, and Dongtai, Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, were large counties with over 500,000 acres of cotton planting and a total output of over one million dan. Today, Dafeng only has 1,200-1,300 acres of cotton planting area. At present, more than half of the seed cotton has been harvested in traditional old cotton areas this year. The seed cotton yield is expected to be 200-225 kilograms per mu, and the yield per unit area is basically the same as in normal years.

In terms of acquisition, there are currently no large or medium-sized ginning factories in Jiangsu. Most of them are small ginning companies, which are basically purchased by cotton merchants who purchase agricultural products. When purchased, the price is mostly 4.00-4.50 yuan/jin. Because the quantity of local seed cotton is limited and the purchase price this year is significantly higher than last year, farmers are actively selling. Cotton merchants then sell the purchased seed cotton to small ginners locally or in neighboring counties. These small ginners and soil balers will also organize some seed cotton resources from other provinces to invest because the actual harvested cotton cannot withstand processing for a long time. After processing, the processed lint is often sold to some small private textile mills, small cloth factories, toy factories, etc. The price is low and the quality is not up to the quality of products of regular enterprises.

An industry insider said that currently there are only 1-2 small ginning companies in old cotton areas like Dafeng, Yancheng, with an annual processing volume of several hundred, The prices vary from thousands of tons to more than 1,000 tons. Most of the lint and cottonseed are negotiated prices and the sales are very good. Most of them come from the factory to negotiate purchases. Due to the limited quantity, these small ginning workshops are often organized sporadically, and then arrange processing and sales at one time depending on the accumulated quantity or market conditions. It is understood that there is no cotton processing in the old cotton area of Jiangsu Subei, and the local cotton is not enough for textile use. Companies still solve the problem of raw material supply through bidding for cotton reserves or import channels.
