Today, as the concept of ecological and environmental protection becomes increasingly popular, fluorine-free products are more easily accepted by consumers, so the development of fluorine-free products has become a new research hotspot.

In terms of performance, fluorine-free can reduce the surface tension of fabrics below water, but not lower than oil. Therefore, fluorine-free can only give fabrics waterproof functions, but cannot give them oil-proof properties, which is far from the level of fluorine-based products. The effect is currently only applied to waterproof finishing of fabrics, and cannot achieve the three-proof finishing effect of “waterproof, oil-proof, and anti-fouling”.

So the development process has gone through a cycle, but the current fluorine-free technology level is higher than the previous paraffin silicone type. Fluorine-free is a trend under the high environmental protection requirements. It is not feasible for the current fluorine-free to completely replace fluorine-based products in terms of performance, and can only partially replace them. If fluorine-free products are to completely replace fluorine-based products, they must first solve the oil-proof problem and achieve a major breakthrough in performance.

As the darling of environmental protection, the fluorine-free craze will continue forever. However, after using high-performance eight-carbon, fluorine-free will always have more problems, causing a lot of troubles to production and processing, such as:

1. Due to the large amount of use, the color of the fabric changes greatly after using fluorine-free, especially the color deepening, especially the texture is more obvious, and the fabric with large light diffuse reflection deepens more obviously. [Countermeasures] A good solution is to take the color change into account when making samples and color matching to maintain color uniformity and production stability.

2. After the same amount of use, the dense film formation causes the friction between yarns to decrease, and seam slippage is easy to occur, which brings trouble to sewing.

[Countermeasures] The best way at present is to add some cross-linking agents and anti-splitting agents, sacrificing part of the feel and making some improvements.

3. After fluorine-free waterproof processing, directly entering the tank for repair will often cause spots to precipitate and stick back, resulting in defective products.

[Countermeasures] It is recommended to strip it before repairing to facilitate repairing.

4. For some high-density fabrics, white marks are easy to appear during fluorine-free waterproof processing, and the freshness of the fabric is greatly reduced.

[Countermeasures] It is recommended that the fabric should be as soft to the touch as possible during front-end processing, or use fluorine-free materials with good compounding properties and add some softener to improve it.
